Eights week 2012

The sun is out, the carbs are loaded, the boats are moved and the rowers are hydrated. Time for the biggest week in Oxford rowing.

KCBC is entering 6 boats into Eights this year, 3 men’s and 3 women’s. M1 are starting at the foot of Div I, hoping to consolidate a safe position further up, and W1 are top of Div II looking to break in to Div I. After a long spell off the water due to adverse conditions, everyone is raring to get some great racing time now that we are back.

This week is also the first time KCBC is choosing captains and vice-captains by ballot, with all members of the boat club eligible to vote. The committee positions are vital in getting new blood into the sport, so think carefully about where your vote goes!

I’d like to finish by wishing everyone from KCBC good luck this week. Hopefully the weather will stay like this. Personally, I’m looking forward to that Saturday afternoon Pimm’s and the dinner!

Torpids 2012 is all over

After what felt like two long wet terms, KCBC’s Torpids campaign is all over. After a pretty intense week, we can announce the following results:

M1: Bumped up to div 2 on Wednesday, but bumped down on Thursday and Friday, and had a bit of a disaster on Saturday, losing 4 places after a blade clash
W1: Bumped up one place on each of Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, but unfortunately couldn’t escape Wolfson getting blades on Saturday
M2: Blades!

Congrats to M2 on getting blades, a real achievement for a crew that didn’t really exist as late as 2 weeks before racing!
